Hike – Tide is down between 1:00 pm and 3:00pm. We will meet at ArtSpring to car pool, departing at 10:15 or at the trailhead at the entrance to the Cupples trail to set out at 10:30. We will do the Cupples trail first, then head up to Southey Point Rd to pick up the Jack Foster Trail to the beach. Lunch on the beach, then head up past North End Farm to return to the cars. Note the late start to synchronize with the tides. There are places to pull off the road and park about 200 m past the North End Farm entrance and at the entrance to the Cupples trail.
Walk- Gillie Hutchinson will lead a walk to Daffodil Point in Burgoyne Provincial Park with lunch at the point. Depart ArtSpring at 10:00 am or meet at Burgoyne lower parking lot at 10:20am.

Hike – Al Lehmann will lead a strenuous hike up Mt Tuam (about 500 meters climb)
through the forest for about 90 minutes followed by lunch on the open meadow with
spectacular views. After lunch we will hike down the open meadow, down through the forest
on the west side, and finally back along Mountain Road to the cars. If the meadows are wet
with rain, we will return the way we came through the forest.
Meet at ArtSpring to car pool departing at 09:40 or at Drummond Park to consolidate vehicles for the drive onto Mountain Road.
Walk – Sheila Spence will lead a moderate walk on the Reginald Hill Conservation Area with lunch at the lookout. The route is a gradual climb. Meet at ArtSpring for 10:00 am departure or at Clarinda Road at 10:20. Park on Clarinda Road. near the intersection with Bridgeman Road.
Ramble – My neighbour and I scouted out a new trail from Kitchen Rd. to Horel Rd.
We’ll need to leave a car at Horel. The Horel Rd. south of the trailer park then drive to the far end of Kitchen Rd and start walking from there.
We can meet at ArtSpring at 10:30 and at Horel Rd. as soon as you can get through the construction.
I will just go to Horel Rd.

Hike – Ruckle Park, Chris Hatfield Trail to Yeo Point and Kings Cove, then inland to Hilltop, return via Merganser Pond. Meet at Art Spring to car pool, departing at 1:00 pm or at the trailhead at the end of Meyer Rd.
Hike – John Gauld will lead a hike to the summit of Mt. Erskine on less familiar and more challenging trails. About 7 kilometres and a 300 metre elevation gain. Meet at ArtSpring to carpool, departing at 9:45 or at the Collins Road trailhead to set out at 10:00 am.
Walk – Brian Hutchings will lead a moderate walk on little known trails on the south east side of Mount Maxwell to an even less known waterfall. Elevation: 225 metres. Meet at ArtSpring for 10:00 am departure or at the first field on the left of Burgoyne Road a 10:20 am
Hike – Manzanita Ridge and Mt Erskine starting from Toynbee Rd. Meet at ArtSpring to car pool, departing at 1.00 pm or at the trailhead on Toynbee Rd to set out at 1:20.
Hike – Larry McIntyre will lead a hike from Burgoyne Bay to the top of Mt Maxwell. It will be strenuous: 8 km and 600m elevation gain, with steep and slippery sections; however, for our efforts, we’ll get to view Maxwell’s giant boulder fields, the remnants of a “critical mineral” mine dating to 1905, and the site of a 17 acre forest fire from 2009, with many charred douglas firs still alive and thriving. Meet at ArtSpring to car pool at departing at 9:40 or at the trailhead in Burgoyne Bay to set out at 10:00. Car-poolers note earlier departure time.
HIKE UPDATE
Here’s some more info on the hike up Maxwell tomorrow. It’s going to be approx. 4.5 to 5 hours long, including lunch and breaks (last week’s hike up Erskine was 4 hrs). Lunch will be late, so you might want to have a snack handy to refuel at one of the stops we’ll take on the way up. As indicated in the description below, there are steep and slippery sections so you might want to consider bringing a pole or two. Weather should be ideal: sunny and mild. Any questions, let me know.
Walk – Bill Palmer will lead a walk on the Tsawout Reserve from the Menhinick Drive entrance. Expect some rough sections with roots and rocks at the entrance and on the upper loop. Lunch at the beach. Carpool departing ArtSpring at 10:00 am or meet at the end of Menhinick Drive at 10:20.

We will take the circuit up trail 2, then trail 8 and descend on trail 1.
Hike – Jenny and Nick Coghlan will lead a hike in Channel ridge to see the wildflowers. Meet at
ArtSpring to car-pool, departing at 9:40, or meet at the trailhead at the top of Broadwell to set out at 10:00.
We need to arrange carpooling in advance of next week´s trip to Tzoulhalem – Stoney Hill trip on next Tuesday, April 29. Unfortunately I find that I cannot attend. Please reply if you are planning to attend. Specify whether you are wiling to drive or need a ride.

The cost for each passenger (distance at $0.30/km plus ferry charge for a vehicle) is $10 per person.
Walk – Lynn Thompson will lead a walk on Mt Tzouhalem to the wild flower reserve. Then we will drive back toward Maple Bay, and turn onto Genoa Bay Road for 5 km to Stoney Hill Road. Travel uphill on Stoney Hill Road for about 1 km to a parking area for Stoney Hill Park for lunch and walk the loop trail which features spectacular views over Samsum Narrows and Salt Spring Island
Meet at Portlock Park to carpool for 8:40 AM departure to Vesuvius to drive on the 9:35 ferry.
Anticipated return – 3:35 ferry.
Hike – Mill Farm and Mt Bruce. Meet at ArtSpring to car pool, departing at 1.00 pm or at Drummond Park at 1:20 to consolidate vehicles for the drive up Musgrave Rd. Continue to the trailhead on Mt Bruce Rd (turn off Musgrave Rd just after Rosemurgy/Spirit Lake and continue to a right angle bend in Mt Bruce Rd).
Hike – Lynn Thompson will lead a hike on Mt Tzouhalem to see the wildflowers. Meet at Portlock Park to consolidate vehicles before proceeding to Vesuvius for the 9:35 ferry, leaving Portlock at 8:45. If anyone requires a pickup from Art Spring, I will be there at 8:35. Drive to the Kaspa Road trailhead (map will be posted nearer to the date).
Hike – Bob Keates will lead an off-island hike on Saturna’s Brown Ridge.Meet at Art Spring to car pool at 7:15 or at Fulford by 7:30 to walk on the 7:50 ferry to Swartz Bay. Alternatively, park in Ganges and take the bus to Fulford (bus leaves at 7:12). Transfer to the 9:10 ferry to Saturna, arriving at 10:20. Return will depart Saturna at 4:35 pm, with a transfer at Mayne at 5:50 pm, scheduled to arrive in Swartz Bay at 6:43 pm.at 6:43 pm.
Broom pull in Howard Horel Nature Reserve. Bring folding saws, clippers and loppers. North Enders meet at Art Spring to car pool, departing at 9:40 or at the trailhead at Mereside Road to set out at 10:00. South enders, meet at the beginning of Burgoyne Bay Road at 9:50 to car pool before continuing to Mereside Road trailhead (limited parking at Mereside). Alternatively go to the parking area at the end of Sarah Way at 9:40. Descend the right branch of the Bryant Hill trail to meet up with the main group where the Mereside trail joins the Bryant Hill trail.
